I thought I would give a better explanation of what has been going on with our sweet Millie. She had some spotting that seemed a bit excessive. (More than the rumored implantation bleeding I have heard about) We also had a hard time getting Millie to eat, even with all her favorite fresh foods added in. She just wasn’t eating. After a call to the vet, she advised we keep an eye on it for a couple days. After no change she scheduled blood work and an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed 4 viable sacks (more could be higher up under ribs) and one empty sack (appears she lost one). The blood work was on the higher range of normal. Vet put her on antibiotics as a precaution, vitamin supplement and low activity. She continued to spot for several days after but thankfully it finally stopped. Her tummy is growing and breasts are enlarging. She is eating again which is great news as well. We upset a few folks when we decided not to take a second pre birth deposit. Please know momma’s health is our top priority. Once we know everyone is healthy and thriving we will proceed in taking deposits. Thank you for supporting us and for understanding.
Self Care
Hey guys, this is just a lil apology if I’ve seemed distant. I’ve faced some challenges this past month or so. I tried to take some time for myself this past weekend. I want to thank my family for allowing me to hide away in my room in-between obligations and commitments. Self care (however that looks for you) is so important and not something I am good at. As someone with anxiety I tend to worry about everyone and everything around me and I put myself on the back burner, I’ve learned that leads to burnout and exhaustion. Please be patient as I work on myself while still taking care of everyone around me.

Millie and Ghost have bred. We had a first pairing yesterday. We will take 2 (only 2) pre birth, non refundable reservation fees (deposits). Please understand I do not control nature therefore I can not guarantee eye color, coat color, or the sex of the puppies. You must be open to the possibilities. Your reservation fee holds your place in line (example: first pick), it comes off the total due and the remaining balance is due at 8 weeks/Puppy Pick up. I must have a puppy questionnaire on file. There is a good chance this will be Ghost’s final litter. As I continue to pursue my dog training certification and start up my puppy socialization / foundation training business, I need to make things a bit easier. Having only one unaltered male will help. I believe we found a quality male in Jasper who will pair wonderfully with all 4 of our females. There is no desire or intention of adding any more dogs to our family (and or program) at this time. This will bring us back down to the original goal of a small breeding program with our main focus on Puppy Training. We will keep you posted on our decision.

Winter / Ghost Week 9 {Texas Husky Breeders}
Winter is progressing nicely. I was able to feel movement last night. We were laying on my bed cuddling. I love and appreciate these special moments. Winter appears a bit restless at times and while she is still eating and playing normally she does prefer to be close to me. She has started losing the fur on her tummy. I do NOT shave my girls tummy. They lose the fur naturally. If anything I will trim hair around nipples on my longer coat girls.
March 22nd 2021 – March 29th 2021
Week 9
- She may express milk from her nipples.
- She may also become restless, seek seclusion and in the last few days, soil the house.
- Watch for her temperature to drop. Normal is 99.5 to 101. A drop to 97 – 98 on two readings an hour apart will mean the start of pre-labor.
- She will be ‘nesting’ 12-24 hours before the birth
March 30th 2021
Estimated Due Date. *
- Average is 62/63 days but may take place from the 58th to the 68th day.
- Keep watching for that cool to the touch. If you’re actually taking the temp, it does drop from 101 to 98 degrees.
- Appetite will disappear as whelping approaches.
- May see a clear discharge from the vulva.
- At onset of labor may pace, dig, shiver, pant and/or vomit.
*Please note it is not uncommon for girls to go past their due date.

Winter / Ghost Week 8 {Texas Husky Breeders}
Winter is doing very well. Based on current symptoms and past experience I am pretty confident she is a few days behind the pregnancy calendar and will go past due date. Remember estimated due date is based on first tie/pairing and not actual ovulation date. Normal pregnancy length is 58-68 days, but can vary depending on actual ovulation date.
March 16 – March 21
- Week 8
- Dam begins to spend a lot more time grooming herself.
- Her breasts become swollen as her milk forms.
- Nesting begins as she looks for a place to have her puppies.
- The dam may not have as big of an appetite during this period.
- Offer your girl as much as she will eat several times a day rather than one huge meal.
- Her abdomen can be crowded with puppies.
- You can feel the puppies move now.
- Pups have fur and are more active in their crowded space.
- They move to get into position for birth.

Millie / Ghost {Texas Husky Breeder}
Millie will be paired with Ghost on her upcoming heat. I think this will be a gorgeous litter. With Millie and Ghost both having non traditional colors behind them I believe there is a chance for both traditional and non traditional colors and masks. Based on pedigree I do not expect red and white or whites. Both standard and woolly coats are possible. Blue and brown eyes are expected with all colors and combinations possible. This is a a first time pairing and Millie’s first litter.
I will not be taking deposits on this litter until they have bred. I will only be taking 2 pre birth reserve deposits. If you are interested in this litter feel free to send in a questionnaire (application).
Winter / Ghost {Texas Husky Breeder}
I am so sorry for the lack of updates with Winter. It has ben a bit hectic to say the least. She is doing great though. The last few days she has not wanted to finish her meals, we have had to encourage her with add ins and toppers and she is still picking and eating slow. She is cuddly and loving, still playful with Muffin and Tyrion who she is hanging out with a lot now. According to the pregnancy calculator she is nearing the end of Week 6. I’d like to take this time to remind you all the due dates are estimates and my girls tend to go several days past them. The last week of pregnancy we go on Puppy Watch and take care to never leave our girls alone and I never go far. (just normal household errands). All of our pre birth deposits are reserved and we will take remaining deposits once we are sure the litter is thriving, and the first 3 reserve picks have chosen.
March 1 – March 7
Week 6
- During the last several weeks, your dog’s nutritional needs nearly double. Feed small meals several times a day.
- Increase water.
- Enlargement of mammary glands as nipples darken and enlarge.
- Your girl could start to be less comfortable, and could vomit on occasion.
- There may be some clear fluid discharge from the vulva. This is normal.
- Pigment develops as the pups keep growing.
- Eyes and lids have formed and remain closed till 2 weeks after birth.

The Great Mask Debate. {Texas Huskies}
We are not here to argue or debate masks vs no masks. We respect your right to do what’s best for your family and we hope you respect ours. With that being said even with the Texas Governor lifting the mask mandate we will still follow social distancing guidelines for puppy pick up. I can give a list of reasons including a soon to be newborn but at the end of the day we all need to respect each other and what we feel we need to do to protect ourselves and our family. March Again? {Texas Siberian Huskies}
Well, it’s March again… or is it still? It’s been a crazy year for sure. We survived the Snow Apocalypses and several days with little to no electricity and a broken pipe. I never want to be that cold again. My son and his girlfriend (who is expecting) had to stay with us while all the water leaks were being fixed in their home. At the same time my hubby came home after being gone for 2 weeks only to have to isolate because he had direct contact with someone who tested positive at work. We found out after he was home for 24 hours and we were very concerned especially for my son’s pregnant girlfriend. Thankfully he never had symptoms and just to be sure he wasn’t asymptomatic he had a test done. All is well.
We have been working on our garden and of course have work still to do with the kitchen remodel. Hubby working out of town makes home projects difficult but we keep plugging along. This next project is closer to home so hopefully that means we can finish things up.
