False Pregnancy

Several days ago I noticed Amara, acting moody and out of sorts. After keeping an eye on her I think she may be having a false pregnancy. This is not uncommon, and I suspected this may happen to one of the three girls since we skipped breeding this cycle. Because we had purchased plane tickets for a trip in May, we took precautions to not allow the girls near Tyrion (Ghost was kept in his yard). But as I continue to watch her, I am a bit nervous (thanks anxiety) that she may be pregnant. As I further research false pregnancy I have learned that it can in fact mimic pregnancy to even include nesting, milk production, labor symptoms and adopting toys. So we will continue to watch her and pray that this is in fact a false pregnancy.

*if things change I will let you all know. I understand that will open myself up to criticism from others but it is what it is.

She’s staying! {Texas Siberian Huskies}

As many of you may have noticed, Morrigan has had a very extensive stay. Transportation and scheduling has been the main issue for the delay. If any puppies stay for any length of time they are treated like my pack, I don’t know any other way. We ran the risk of Morrigan and the pack becoming bonded but I really wanted Evelyn to have her. We are pretty full up here at our lil husky ranch. Evelyn suggested Morrigan should stay several times but I assured her I had no problem holding her as long as she needed.

The decision was made by Evelyn that it would be the best for Morrigan if she stayed. I was not ready for this and had to talk to my husband and kids. I cried at the thought of finding her a home (other than being with Evelyn) and really apprehensive about keeping her. My kids pointed out how bonded we have become, and my husband pointed out how great she is doing with her training and how she has really helped me on my training journey.

So it looks like Little Morri will be staying. My main goal at this time is to continue to pursue my training certification(s) and start my puppy preschool. This decision has thrown a slight kink in my plans as far as dogs go but I believe the universe knows best. I do think we will continue Morri’s training and we will work towards her CGC and possibly other sporting competitions. Thank you all for supporting us and following us on our Husky Journey. I want to thank Evelyn for always having the best interest of her pups in mind. I don’t think many would have made that decision.

Looking forward to 2020

At this time all our current puppies have homes. I am so thankful for our wonderful families. We are already looking forward to 2020 and hopefully to the blessing it brings.

Depending on their cycle, we plan on skipping the next heat for all our girls. We have several reasons, but the main one is we are trying to plan a small vacation the end of Spring and do not want to risk having girls due or pups on the ground. My oldest two children will be watching the pack and we do not want any issues while we are away.

While we are taking a break I plan on taking Karen Pryor Academy training classes. I am excited to take the Puppy Start Right class and becoming a certified Puppy Start Right Instructor. I also plan on taking the Comprehensive Dog Training Class. My goal is to teach Puppy Socialization classes for puppies 8-12 weeks as well as a Puppy Kindergarten class. (Puppy I and Puppy II). I have been told by several trainers that this is the perfect companion class for Puppy Culture breeders, so I know this will boost my understanding of puppies and the importance of early socialization and training. At this time I want to focus on puppies but I have not ruled out taking the full Professional Dog Training course to become a certified Professional Dog Trainer. Right now, it’s all about baby steps. ๐Ÿ˜€

I will be continuing with Puppy Culture and look forward to the opening of Madcap University, where more courses will be offered and I can continue learning to better my program.

We have outlined the possible pairings on our planned litters page for the end of 2020. Nothing is certain but this is my current plans. If you are interested in a puppy but do not want to wait until the end of next year, please feel free to message me for referrals to breeders I trust.

Thank you again for all your support, I hope you continue to follow us on social media for updates on our pack and family!

Amara’s Birth Story {Texas Siberian Husky Breeder}

Amara gave birth to 6 beautiful puppies. 5 males and 1 female. 2 males are grey and white, one female is black and white, and 3 males are currently mostly black but we expect them to change to either Agouti or Black, Tan and White. She had a very smooth first stage of labor and labored and rested most of the day. The first puppy was born at 8:41pm on Sept 19th. The sixth puppy was born at 1:18am on the 20th. All puppies appear healthy and are nursing wonderfully. I am waiting a day or so to do a photo session with this litter. I would like to allow time for the coloring to change/appear.

We are expecting 2 more litters at anytime. If you have any questions or if you are interested in a puppy please contact me.

Due Dates Approaching {Texas Husky Breeder}

Expected Date of Whelp.

  • Expected date of whelp. Average is 63 days but may take place from the 58th to the 68th day.
  • Start taking rectal temperatures. Normal is 99.5 to 101. A drop to 97 – 98 on two readings an hour apart will mean the start of pre-labor.
  • Appetite will disappear as whelping approaches.
  • Your dam, may appear restless, and will be uncomfortable, and stretch out a lot.
  • May see a clear discharge from the vulva.
  • At onset of labor may pace, dig, shiver, pant and/or vomit.
  • First fetus will be delivered within 4 hours of the onset of labor.

Good Morning. Well, it’s finally here. Due dates are this week. All 3 girls are doing great. But with my girl’s history there is a good chance we wont have pups until late this week / early next week. I went though my records, with their previous pregnancy: Amara went 4 days past due date, Winter went 3 days past due date and Reign went 2 days past due date. I have never had a girl go before or on her due date. Of course now that I said that, this time will be different. *haha*

Just a reminder that all pre birth deposits are reserved. We will have plenty of puppies available for deposit after the reserve picks have chosen. Deposits will be accepted on a first come first serve basis with approved puppy questionnaire. Please feel free to fill out the puppy questionnaire (application) and email it to me if you are interested in a puppy. Deposits are $300 and due at the time you pick your puppy. The remaining $550 will be due at pick up (when pups are 8 weeks) If you rather make payments you can, but final payment is still due at pick up. If you have any questions, please email me. [email protected]

Supernova Siberian Huskies do not breed for eye color. We advise all potential families to research the breed fully before placing a deposit and committing to the purchase process.

Pregnancy Week 9 {Texas Siberian Huskies}

Tue 10 Sep -Tue 17 Sep

Week 9

  • Nipples and vulva should be gently cleaned with warm water, you might want to trim the hairs surrounding the nipples, to allow easier access for the puppies to suck.
  • She may express milk from her nipples.
  • Watch for her temperature to drop. You may take it rectally if you want but she’s just plain old cool to the touch compared to what she has been the last 8 weeks.
  • She may also become restless, seek seclusion and in the last few days, soil the house.
  • Your girl could begin to dig in her whelp box and rearrange her bedding. This is called nesting and is normal.
  • Offer your girl as much as she will eat several times a day rather than one huge meal.
  • Pups have fur and are more active in their crowded space. They move to get into position for birth.

The girls are doing well. They are now entering their 9th week. Please note the dates shown are reflective of Amara’s due date. Winter and Reign are due a couple days after her. All due dates are estimates and can vary depending on when ovulation took place. They are eating well, and we have been able to feel tiny movements. I will spend the rest of this week, getting things ready, and running errands… I want to make sure I have all supplies and the house is stocked up on groceries, etc. Starting next Monday I will be on lock down only leaving for things like taking my son to and from school. ๐Ÿ˜€

Pregnancy Week 8 {Texas Siberian Husky Breeder}

Tue 3 Sep – Mon 9 Sep

Week 8

  • Dam begins to spend a lot more time grooming herself.
  • Her breasts become swollen as her milk forms.
  • Nesting begins as she looks for a place to have her puppies… Make sure you have her box or spot ready..
  • The dam may not have as big of an appetite during this period. Her abdomen can be crowded with puppies.
  • You can feel the puppies move now.
  • See if you can get her used to her whelping box

Things are progressing nicely as the girls enter their 8 week of pregnancy. I can normally feel movement towards the end of this (the 8th) week. I love laying next to them and feeling babies kick. I will for sure get video as soon as the movement is visible. D

Pregnancy 7 weeks {Texas Husky Breeder}

Tue 27 Aug – Mon 2 Sep

Week 7

  • She may shred papers, blankets or bedding in an attempt at โ€œnest buildingโ€ in the last weeks.
  • Your girl could tire more easily, and look for a nesting box.ย
  • During the last 2 weeks, your pet may become irritable and should avoid contact with small children.
  • Moderate exercise is the proper approach. Neither forced rest nor strenuous exercise is a good idea. Short periods of gentle play and short walks are good..
  • Definite abdominal enlargement.
  • Abdomen hair will start shedding.
  • The pups are developed well, and are growing daily.ย

The girls are entering their 7th week. Bellies are starting to grow for all 3 girls. It’s still bit to early to feel movement. We have noticed some irritability. Rooms will be set up this week so the girls can get use to being in separate rooms and get use to the whelping box (pool) again. That was delayed because we had to put a temporary fix on Amara’s puppy room floor. It will have to be completely redone after this litter. ๐Ÿ˜€ We are just about set. I need to do inventory and restock my whelping supplies and I also need to order a couple more puppy pens. ๐Ÿ˜€

New Enrichment Equipment {Texas Huskies}

My husband and I brainstormed and ordered enrichment equipment and toys. My husband is good at reining me in and questioning me about why we need it and the purpose it will serve. If not I will go overboard and end up with an obnoxious amount of stuff with no real reason other than I think it is cute. haha So we got our order in and I am very happy with it. Toys and equipment will be rotated between the litters. Today we sanded and painted our teeter boards and wobble boards. The same ones we used with the previous litters. They needed to be freshened up a bit. We are also working on creating a small designated outdoor puppy play area. ๐Ÿ˜€ I wanted to remind you that while enrichment equipment is super important I feel the most important part of our puppy raising is the Puppy Culture protocols. The Communication Trinity, Crate Conditioning, Shaping Emotional Response, Introducing Recall, Etc. I started out as a critic of this program and now I am believer. Our previous litters were my first Puppy Culture litters and I was a bit unsure of myself….. I am hoping that this time around we can take it even further. We recommend ALL new puppy buyers purchase their own copy of the Original Puppy Culture Film. If the cost is a factor for you, consider asking your library to order a copy for you to borrow.
