What’s new? {Texas Huskies}

Hi guys. I hope you all are doing well. As the world seems to be getting crazier I find myself turning inward and I am so thankful for my little place in this world. My family and our pack have been my sanctuary. I am excited to share that I enrolled in a Fundamentals of Dog Training and Behavior course today. This is a course will jump start my knowledge and tide me over until I can hopefully take the complete dog training certification course next year. Being a certified Puppy Start Right Instructor I still plan to focus on puppy socialization and puppy foundation training but I feel having my dog training certification will broaden my knowledge and make me a more well rounded and credible trainer.

Dog training is unregulated meaning anyone can call themselves a trainer and take your money. Please research before hiring a trainer or attending a class. Not only do you run into frauds there are also many different training styles. For instance I am a positive reinforcement trainer and do not use adverse tools of any kind.

Reign is doing well and if her moodiness is any indication we should be having puppies next month. I hope to have my course completed before pups are born. As always if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Winter’s Expected Litter. {Texas Husky Breeder}

We have several confirmed ties (over several days) between Winter and Tyrion. Expected due date is mid July. Due dates are estimated and can vary depending on ovulation.

We have a really strong waiting list in place and we are now ready to take deposits. Winter typically has 6-7 puppies, so I feel comfortable taking 4 deposits prebirth. Remaining deposits will be taken after pups are born and deposit holders have chosen. Deposits are NON refundable (they are transferable up to 12 months). Please make sure you are stable and ready to commit to the purchase before placing a deposit.

I can not guarantee what gender, eye color or coat color will be available. If you place a prebirth deposit you must be open to the puppies that are born. I can’t control genetics. In the past we have had blue, parti and bi eyed puppies. Brown is always a possibility. We are NOT blue eyed husky breeders. We love the breed not the eyes. All eye colors love you the same! In the past coat colors included, Black and White, Black, Tan and White, and Red and White. Dirty faces and traditional masks as well as standard coats and semi woolly coats are also possible.

Please feel out a puppy application if you are interested in this litter.

Our next litter will be between Reign x Stark. Breeding expected to be in July (pups in Sept) but it all depends on when Reign cycles next.

A Year in Review

2019 was the year of growth for us. I was blessed with wonderful friendships and mentors. The knowledge gained though years of hands on experience and growth is invaluable and I am I so thankful to have people so willing to share that with me when I’ve needed help.

This year we incorporated Puppy Culture into our program and with it a new found understanding and appreciation for the importance of early socialization in puppies beginning at birth! This has sparked a desire to learn more and has paved the way for a possible new venture. I will be continuing my education in January 2020 by starting the Karen Pryor Academy, Puppy Start Right Instructor Course. I believe so much in early puppy socialization and providing a good foundation for puppies that I hope to not only add this knowledge to my program but to start instructing puppy classes in 2020. I am inspired by the science behind early socialization and positive force free training that I want to share it with puppy parents everywhere to help provide a good foundation for their puppies and preventing many of the typical behavior issues that can lead to frustration and possible homeless pets. Because I believe I can make a difference I will be launching (c) Sit n Stay Pawsitive in 2020!

This logo was created for us by Cameo Anderson.
It features our very own Nikita and Zuko as puppies.

We have made some changes in 2019. Autumn has officially retired from breeding and was recently spayed. She will be wonderful grandma to Winter’s pups and a great auntie to all our babies here. Going into 2020 we have 3 females and 2 males intact and the remaining 5 are altered. A reminder that we will be resting our intact girls on their next heat cycle and will not have litters until late 2020. If you can not wait for our next litters I would love to refer you to another breeder that I trust. 2019 was full of blessings and loss. Losing a life sadly happens but is never easy. We love and value each life born here and mourn each loss. 2020 brings more work on kennels, building whelping and puppy rooms, enrichment equipment and a new venture for my son …. bikejoring.

I am so thankful for my family who helps not only to care for our pack and litters but supports me when things get tough and anxiety sets in. I really could not do this without them and surely would not be able to move on to this next step without their words of encouragement and them sharing my excitement. I also want to thank you, our puppy families for your support and for loving our babies and giving them wonderful homes…. you are the reason we do this.

Thank you!!

Winter’s Labor and Whelping

*Note: I’m sharing Winter’s labor story more for my records (cause my memory sucks) but I thought others may enjoy it.

1/13/19: Winter ate a full breakfast. Because of this, when I took her temp I did not expect a drop. She has been fluctuating between 99.2 and 100.2 for 6 days. Temp was 98.8, I was surprised so used a different thermometer. and it was 98.6, tried at third time and it was 98.8. Winter seemed relaxed, and very calm. Took it again an hour later and it was 98.4. She went out to go potty, had an appetite and other then small panting sessions, she mostly napped.

1/14/19: Winter again ate breakfast. We were at 24 hours and I with no visible signs of labor (first or second stage) I began to wonder if I was wrong about the temp. Hours passed and she napped, with short bouts of panting. Around 1pm, I took her out to potty and she ran back in and went straight to the whelping pool. But once in she was very calm and continued to nap. Almost 31 hours passed temp dropped, I decided since she was in no distress to let her continue on her own and if no progress by the next morning, I would call the vet. Around 2:30 pm, Winter started to get restless, going in and out of the pool, laying down and standing up. At 3:00 pm she began to leak fluid and she started to visibly contract. By 3:13 pm the first puppy was delivered.

She was a bit frantic after the first puppy was born, I administered calcium and she was able to calm down a bit before the second pup was born. She was very attentive with each pup. She was a bit obsessive about the cords and kept wanting to chew even after they were cut. I was worried about her pulling to much on the already short cords so I gently redirected her focus when I noticed her trying to pull and chew the cords down even more. Other than that she did wonderful. About 6.5 hours between first and last puppy. She relaxed and settled downright away. I checked on her through out the night.

*This is the first litter where I had no visible sings of labor. Very different from what I was use to. If it wasn’t for the temp drop I would not have known she would be delivering soon. I use to laugh and think that taking the temp was silly because by the time it dropped, I could tell they were in labor. haha So this proves how useful taking their temp 2 times a day is. 😀

2019 Breeding Plans {Texas Siberian Husky Breeders}

Good Morning Friends! We are going to have a busy early 2019!  Mother Nature threw a curve ball at us, but it is not a surprise. Female canine’s cycle sync up just like human females.  Winter was originally “suppose” to come into heat back in Sept which would have been 8 months from her previous heat. Instead she waited until November and started her heat a week before Reign’s expected cycle.  We knew there was a chance this would happen.  What surprised us was that them both being in heat brought Amara into heat earlier than expected.  She and Autumn have been on the same cycle since they started.  After a lot of thought and discussion with family we decided to go ahead and allow her to breed with Ghost. She is due early February.  We think the spacing of the litters will make thing a bit easier. Developmentally Amara’s puppies will be behind Winter and Reign’s (if she is pregnant) making things easier on us. So far Autumn has not come into heat.  At this time we plan to skip Autumn’s next heat.   This will be hard for Autumn because she and Amara have always had litters at the same time. She loves being a mommy and is really good at it. We are worried about jealously issues so we will be keeping an eye on her.

We knew bringing more girls into our breeding program would be mean an increase in more litters at the sometime, but we do not want to overload ourselves or our girls. Their health is always our top propriety as is having the time to care for the litters and making sure we find them all forever homes.  At this time I plan on staying home and making sure everyone gets adequate attention and supervision.

Our upcoming litters page has info on our current plans.  We are taking deposits on Amara and Ghost’s litter.  I will be taking deposits on Winter’s litter once I can confirm pregnancy and I will NOT take deposits on Reign litter until after the litter is born. Puppy Applications will need to be on file for all new families. Puppy application does not guarantee you a puppy. I can refuse anyone a pup at anytime for any reason.

Please feel free to message me with any questions, or concerns.

Thank you,

Missy 😀

Upcoming Litters: Week 9 {Texas Husky Breeders}

Week 8

Sun 1 July 2018 – Sat 8 July 2018

  • Nipples and vulva should be gently cleaned with warm water, you might want to trim the hairs surrounding the nipples, to allow easier access for the puppies to suck.
  • She may express milk from her nipples.
  • Watch for her temperature to drop.
  • She may also become restless, seek seclusion and in the last few days, soil the house.
  • She will be ‘nesting’ 12-24 hours before the birth

Mon 9 July 2918

  • Expected date of whelp. Average is 62 days but may take place from the 58th to the 68th day.
  • Keep watching for that temp drop. If you’re actually taking the temp, it does drop from 101 to 98 degrees.
  • Appetite will disappear as whelping approaches.
  • May see a clear discharge from the vulva.
  • At onset of labor may pace, dig, shiver, pant and/or vomit.
  • First fetus will be delivered within 4 hours of the onset of labor.

Please remember these calculations are based on Amara’s first tie. That may or may not be the one that took. It all depends on when she ovulated. Autumn’s first tie was 4 days after Amara.  Please adjust the above dates accordingly.  In the past both girls have gone several days past their estimated due dates so do not let that concern you. I will keep you updated the best I can while keeping my girls a priority.

Both girls are showing with little round tummies.  Amara continues to spend a lot of time in her puppy room.  She prefers to be out of the way of the pack.  Autumn is the opposite she likes to be where the action is. Both girls have strong appetites and do not seem to be uncomfortable in anyway.

If you have any questions please feel free to message me. I will continue to update on the facebook page.  😀

Upcoming Litters: Week 6 {Texas Husky Breeders}

Week 6

Sun 10 Jun 2018 – Sat 16 Jun 2018

  • During the last several weeks, your dog’s nutritional needs nearly double. Feed small meals several times a day.
  • Increase water.
  • Enlargement of mammary glands as nipples darken and enlarge.
  • Your girl could start to be less comfortable, and could vomit on occasion.
  • There may be some clear fluid discharge from the vulva. This is normal.
  • Pigment develops as the pups keep growing.
  • Eyes and lids have formed and remain closed till 2 weeks after birth.

We have some very good signs of pregnancy now. Both girls are showing clear discharge.  Both are starting to get a bit irritable.  Autumn has become very picky, refusing kibble but eating sardines and other yummies.  We are moving to smaller meals throughout the day for her to try to make sure she gets her full daily serving. Both girls as always are on vitamins and get fresh foods daily.

There is only 4 days between both girls first ties with many ties over lapping. So there is a good chance they can deliver very close to the same day or Autumn can deliver before Amara, it all depends on when ovulation took place.

Upcoming litter: Week 3 {Texas Husky Breeder}

Mon 21 May 18 – Sun 27 May 18

Dates are based on Amara’s first tie which may or may not be the time of ovulation.  Autumn is about 4 days behind Amara.

Info taken from multiple websites.

Week 3

  • Embryos implants along uterus wall.
  • During the next two weeks the important organs will develop.
  • Her nipples begin to turn pink and enlarge.
  • May loose appetite during this week.
  • Morning sickness may occur
  • With the embryos implanted the eggs begin to grow and develop.
  • Your girl may begin to display breast development and mood swings.

We have started to notice slight mood change in Amara. And no noticeable change in Autumn.  Based on previous pregnancies, Amara tends to get a bit mopey and Autumn gets more lovey. We shall see what happens this time around.

Deposit Information {Texas Husky Breeder}

DEPOSIT INFO FOR UPCOMING LITTERS: Puppy Application/Questionnaire is required for anyone interested in placing a deposit and does not guarantee you a puppy. We only take 2 deposits (pick one and pick two) per litter and only after we confirm breeding took place. We may hold off on taking deposits with first time momma’s to ensure they safely whelp. Since deposits are non refundable we feel this is best for potential buyers and us. We rather be safe than sorry. Deposits should be paid in full and sent promptly to reserve your spot. You may forfeit your spot if payment is not received in a timely fashion.

There is never a deposit to be placed on our waiting/contact list but it is your job to watch our page and contact me once the litter is born if you are still interested in a pup. I will try to reach out to people on the list, but I don’t have time to track people down and wait days for replies.  Deposits placed after the first two reserve picks have chosen are first come first serve and deposit must be made promptly. After that payments can be made as long as the puppy is paid off by 8 weeks old. Balance must be paid by the time the pups reach 8 weeks. Pups go home at 8 weeks, and only after their vet check including fecal test. There will be a boarding fee for pups not picked up on time unless prior arrangements are made. Pups will not be released unless complete balance has been received.

I am very easy going, if something comes up please be HONEST and talk to me.

2018 litters, and the future of our breeding program. {Texas Husky Breeder}

At this time we plan to breed Amara on her next heat cycle. We are estimating that to be April (ish) She tends to go about 8 months between heats. Amara is always bred to Ghost unless we choose an outside stud for her. We may look into that in the future.

We plan on breeding Winter on her next heat cycle as well.  She has matured nicely. Her height and weight are within standard. She has a semi wooly coat that is extremely full and plush. Her temperament is similar to her grand dam, Nikita. She is calm, but playful and very loving! Winter will be bred to Tyrion.

We have tentatively planned to breed Reign late 2018/early 2019. It all depends on heat cycles, age, temperament and health.  Reign was originally set to be paired with Tyrion, but my daughter has decided to get Stark neutered, and we wanted to pair them at least once.  So the much awaited Reign/Tyrion litter will be later in 2019.

At this time we do not plan on breeding Autumn this year. As we evaluate the direction we want to go with our program there is a chance we will retire Autumn.  If that happens she of course will remain her with us.

I will post more when we get confirmation of heat cycles, etc.
